The Baltic Sea ecosystem is heavily impacted by human activities. Because of its unique natural traits, equal in size to the Black Sea but only 4% of its water volume,  it is more sensitive than any other sea basin. As such, the Baltic Sea requires special attention and special measures. Climate change and the drastic loss of the main predator species cod is driving big changes and losses of a vital ecosystem components as well as economic and food resources. The Baltic Sea has gotten renewed attention as border region to Russia and resilience is now a word both ecological status and EU food security and safety. We cannot afford to continue business as usual and this event is to explore and expose two key issues: the economic potential in restored fish stocks and how scientific advice on fishing opportunities have missed the mark and needs to be changed in the Baltic Sea.

It is in this crucial context for the Baltic Sea, MEP Isabella Lövin is currently preparing her own-initiative report on the multiannual plan for the Baltic Sea and ways forward, and invites you for this timely event to address the issue together.
