Let’s Make the Black Sea Blue’ – Blue week at the Black Sea! 29 October - 5 November 2021

ust around the Black Sea Action Day (31st of October), the EU4Ocean Coalition is preparing the Let’s make the Black Sea Blue event – ‘Let’s make the Black Sea Blue!’, supported by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission.

The aim of the event is to give visibility to all relevant Black Sea marine-related communities, including schools and pupils, teachers, marine science educators, stakeholders from marine-related sectors, NGOs, youth, policy-makers and government representatives, public institutions, researchers and academia, conservationists, entrepreneurs, other ocean professionals as well as general citizens.

  • The event will bring together and discuss on-going activities of the EU4Ocean coalition and its communities in the Black Sea, with a specific focus on marine litter following the SEArica event on the 4th of November
  • It will give specific space to the interactions between Black Sea Young Ambassadors and Young Ocean Advocates of the Youth4Ocean forum, and
  • Will focus on bringing the education on the Black Sea into the classrooms with the relevant stakeholders.

Kicking off at the Black Sea Action Day with the Ocean Literacy festival activities, launching the projects of the Young Ocean Advocates, and finishing with the panel discussions on how to move forward concrete initiatives in the Black Sea (in particular in the topic of marine litter) with marine experts, policy makers, youth, educators, and general public and make a movement to make pledges for the #MakeEUBlue campaign for making and keeping the Black Sea Blue!

Join the event and contribute with your ideas and views on ocean literacy in the Black Sea countries!

The EU4Ocean opening will be on the 29th of September, from 10am CEST, the SEArica event on Marine Litter in the Danube and Black Sea area will be on the 4th of November from 11:00 to 13:30 (CET) and the final EU4Ocean event will take place on the 5th of November, starting from 9am CET.

What is an Intergroup?

The Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas Intergroup is one of the 27 Intergroups that were approved on 11 December 2019 by the Conference of Presidents for the 9th legislature of the European Parliament. Intergroups can be formed by MEPs from any political group and any parliamentary committee with a view to holding informal exchanges of views on particular issues and promoting contact between MEPs and civil society.

The Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas Intergroup brings together more than 100 MEPs from 7 different political groups and 23 Member States.

Intergroups are not Parliament bodies and therefore may not express Parliament's opinion.

Intergroups are subject to internal rules adopted by the Conference of Presidents on 16 December 1999 (last updated on 11 September 2014), which set out the conditions under which intergroups may be established at the beginning of each parliamentary term and their operating rules.
